A right Royal get together! Residents celebrate The Platinum Jubilee
Wow, what a weekend! The UK came together to mark the passing of The Queen's Platinum Jubilee, with concerts, street parties and live televisual events galore to keep us all entertained. A staggering 13.4 million of us tuned in to watch Saturday night's Platinum Party at the Palace but, while these are blockbuster figures for the Beeb, the real success story has to be the community events that took place across the country.
A recent poll suggests that a record-breaking 16.75 million people took part in Jubilee community events – one in four of the population. This makes this Jubilee weekend the biggest community event in UK history. And staff and residents alike at our Independent Living Schemes and Young Persons Service (including the Hereford Young Persons Service and Ludlow Foyer) absolutely did not want to be left out!
Supported by our Connexus colleagues, residents helped to organise all manner of street parties, Royal tea parties (don't forget the Victoria sponge), bingo, buffets and BBQs. Most of our Independent Living Schemes have shared Community Rooms for residents to enjoy group activities, making them ideal locations for the Jubilee parties. These events were open to the wider local community too, ensuring residents did not feel isolated during this joyful time of national celebration.
