Refurbished New Street benches welcomed in Wem
The Mayor of Wem, Cllr David Parry, recently joined Laura Fullwood from Connexus and John Ralphs from Wem Town Council to unveil a set of newly refurbished benches on New Street in Wem.
The benches, first installed by the Barber Trust in 1964, had been in need of refurbishment for some time. As part of the work, Wem Town Council organised a fresh coat of paint, while Connexus contractor Evans Construction installed new concrete plinths beneath the benches. This improvement means they can now be used more comfortably by the local community throughout the year.
Councillor Parry said: “It has been a real pleasure for Wem Town Council to work in partnership with Connexus to restore and reinstate the benches on New Street Wem. The renovation work undertaken by the Town Council will ensure that these benches should be in place for use by Wem residents and visitors for another 60 years.”
Laura Fullwood said: “It’s great to see the benches refurbished and ready to be used by the local community again. Working together like this really shows what can be achieved through a partnership approach. Thank you to Evans Construction and the Town Council for their support.”
During the visit, the mayor also visited the nearby Edinburgh House site redevelopment to see progress on the 31 affordable homes being built.
