Work is starting on new rural affordable housing at Marton in Shropshire. Connexus is building ten one- two- and three-bedroom houses on the outskirts of the village to meet local housing need. The new homes will be on the same site as the six affordable homes built by Connexus in 2003.

The new semi-detached homes, being constructed by SJ Roberts Construction, will be a mix of social rent and shared ownership and a public space for use by the whole community will be created.

Native trees and shrubs will be planted as part of the development to improve and protect existing ecological habitats. Bird and bat boxes will be installed across the site and hedgehog fencing will be used to allow hedgehogs and other small mammals to move around safely and undisturbed.

The homes will be energy efficient with a range of features including air source heat pumps and electric vehicle charge points.

Amanda Knowles, head of development at Connexus said, “Affordable housing is so important to the sustainability of rural villages, and we’ve worked very closely with Shropshire Council, the local councillor and the community in Marton to plan a development that will truly meet the local housing need.”
