'Give us a mic' podcast project gives younger people a voice
Connexus has launched a pilot podcast training project for people accessing its younger person support services. The ‘Give us a mic’ project is supported by MRI Software, a leading provider of technology solutions for social housing and the wider property sector, and Connexus’ CRM software partner.
MRI, which donated podcasting equipment and software licences, will also deliver hands-on workshops to support the creation and delivery of podcast content. In addition to drawing on its experience supporting housing providers with technology and digital transformation projects, MRI Software is working alongside bestselling author, fitness expert and podcaster Alex Bevis and local music artist Macy O to support the young people throughout 2026 with training and advice on creating engaging podcast content.
The project was launched with an event at Ludlow assembly rooms, which included an inspirational talk and a question-and-answer session with Alex Bevis and Macy O. Local Ludlow charities have also offered to support by providing volunteering opportunities that the budding podcasters can use as content for their broadcasts.
Nick Batt, Customer Director, Connexus said: “Give us a mic’ is about much more than learning how to record a podcast. It’s about opening doors, building confidence and helping young people see what’s possible for their future. By working with brilliant partners like MRI Software and inspirational local artists and charities, we’re creating a supportive, real‑world learning experience that helps young people develop skills, tell their stories and feel more connected to their communities. This pilot is a small project with the potential to drive huge impact.”
Deborah Matthews, Managing Director, Social Housing & VP Product Management, EMEA, MRI Software said, "At MRI Software, we’re committed to powering thriving communities through our technology, people and ongoing investment in the sectors we serve. While we work closely with social housing providers to drive digital transformation and operational excellence, initiatives like ‘Give us a mic’ are a powerful extension of that commitment. By providing technology, resources, and ongoing mentorship, we’re helping to build skills and confidence that will last well beyond this initiative. This is a great example of collaboration making a tangible difference in our communities, and we’re excited to see the positive impact on these young people and how the project will grow across Shropshire and Herefordshire.”
