Edinburgh House, Wem, Shropshire

Connexus has started work on the redevelopment of Edinburgh House in Wem, Shropshire. The site was previously the Police Station and offices for Connexus, Shropshire council and the Town Council.
The redevelopment will see the former police station wing converted into 13 one- and two-bedroom apartments for social rent, the rest of the building will be demolished.
18 two- and three-bedroom houses for social rent and shared ownership are to be constructed on the site. The homes will have electric vehicle charging points and air source heat pumps.
The design of the new semi-detached homes will reflect existing housing in Wem, for instance terraced housing will be built along New Street to compliment the homes opposite.
Across the site existing trees are being retained were possible, new native trees will be planted, and bird and bat boxes will be installed together with hedgehog friendly fencing.
A grant of over £1.9 million is being provided by Homes England to enable the redevelopment of the site, to provide much-needed affordable homes in the town.
Amanda Knowles, head of development said: “The redevelopment of Edinburgh House is a good example of our commitment to build homes that meet the local need. Redeveloping our former office space into much needed homes for the local community is a fitting reuse of the site.”
The development is expected to be completed in spring 2027.
