Anne Turner has been appointed as the new Chair of the Connexus Board, succeeding Michele Ibbs who steps down after three years in the role.

Anne worked for over 25 years as a Finance Director in the housing sector in three major Midlands housing associations. She has chaired Connexus’ Finance and Investment Committee since joining the Board in autumn 2024, bringing with her a strong track record of financial leadership, excellent sector knowledge, and a deep understanding of the challenges facing housing associations.

Anne has consistently championed prudent financial management, effective treasury and cash planning, and the importance of generating surpluses to invest in new and existing homes. She is also keen to encourage continuous improvement in customer service and the quality of homes.

Since retiring as Chief Operating Officer at Orbit Group in 2016, she has continued to work in the sector, holding a number of non-executive roles in a variety of very different associations. Anne took up the role of Chair with immediate effect following Connexus’ annual general meeting on 3 September.

Michele Ibbs said: “After three busy years at Connexus as Chair, I am pleased to be able to hand the baton onto Anne.

“I am extremely proud of all we have achieved, and with a new strategy and clear business plan in place, I’m confident Connexus will continue to go from strength to strength as a sustainable business, delivering the best outcomes for customers and the communities we serve.”

Connexus Chief Executive Kate Smith said: “I would like to thank Michele for her dedication and leadership, guiding Connexus through a significant period of change and helping to build an organisation which is stronger, more resilient and better able to deliver for its customers.

“We are delighted to welcome Anne as Chair, and I look forward to working closely with her. Her experience and deep understanding of the sector will ensure we have continuity in our governance approach as we deliver our vision of creating homes you can build a life in.”

Anne said: “I am delighted to succeed Michele as Chair of Connexus. Since joining the Board last year, I have greatly enjoyed my role, particularly seeing first-hand the positive difference Connexus makes in our communities. With a corporate strategy in place and a clear vision for the future, I look forward to working with the Board, our customers and colleagues to deliver on our ambitions and continue to strengthen Connexus’ role as a trusted rural housing association.”
