Children’s charity scores a slice of golfing generosity
Connexus colleagues recently supported a charity golf day which raised £1300 for a local fund that gives one-off grants to terminally ill children.
George’s Fund, based in Herefordshire, was set up in memory of a local little boy whose life was tragically cut short by a brain tumour and is a specially named fund of the Hereford Community Foundation.
The event was organised by Herefordshire, Ludlow and North Shropshire College and brought together local businesses for a day of sport and fundraising at the Kington Golf Club. Thirteen teams, each consisting of four players, competed in the 18-hole tournament.
The college selects a local charity each year to support and organises an event to raise funds and foster a connection between education and industry in the local area.
Connexus was invited to support the event as many of the organisation’s apprentices study at the college, which also provides essential training for Connexus engineers. Courses offered such as heat pump accreditations ensure engineers stay up-to-date with industry standards.
Howard Hughes, mechanical and electrical manager at Connexus, said: “George’s fund makes a big difference to the lives of young people and their families when they find themselves in extremely difficult circumstances. We were really pleased to support the fund’s work by sponsoring a hole at the event and contributing to the overall money raised.”
Laura Hughes, who set up the fund, said: “We are so grateful for the money raised at the golf day as we know how important it is to bring smiles to children facing challenging times.
“George’s Fund is a special named fund of the Herefordshire Community Foundation, and we give grants to local Herefordshire projects to help primary-aged children overcome physical and emotional barriers through outdoor projects.”
