‘Buzzing atmosphere’ as crowds turn out for Shropshire carnival and show
The Clun Carnival and Show wowed crowds earlier this month, with a little help from the Connexus Community Development Fund. The annual show, held in the Shropshire market town, attracts scores of visitors each year from the local community and beyond.
£1400 in funding, provided by the association’s Community Development Fund, enabled the Carnival and Show’s committee to purchase a marquee to host musicians and dancers. It will also be used to serve refreshments at future events.
The event itself took place in the beautiful August sunshine in the grounds of Clun Castle, Shropshire. It followed a week of events in and around the town which included the Clun Carnival Canter (a ‘brutal’ 5.2 mile cross-country race), a treasure hunt, and a procession.
Margaret Heritage, one of the event’s organisers, said: “Many thanks from the whole committee for supporting us, it’s much appreciated. This investment, allowing us to purchase our own equipment, will ensure the viability of the annual show.
“The atmosphere was buzzing, and the community spirit shone through. We’ve had so many lovely comments, it’s great to see such a fantastic turnout and so many smiling faces.”
Gary Darlington, head of communities at Connexus, said: “We were really pleased to provide funding for the Clun Carnival and Show this year. Supporting sustainable communities is really important for Connexus, and events like this are a great way to bring everyone together.”
